Kerry Ann and Jeff, thanks for covering my topic! This was great! 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Sam!! Feel free to submit any other questions you might have.
Kerryann, Do you mind sharing what brand of tabletop enameled roaster you have? I have been looking at them but finding it hard to find the lead information.
Thanks!
Molly, I have an older-style Nesco.
THanks:)
Hi KerryAnn,
I just got a Nesco Roaster Oven with a porcelain cookwell, from Amazon. When it came I was really surprised at how lightweight and, well, cheap the insert looks. I wonder if the older style ones were more substantial?
I know Nesco says their inserts are lead-free, but I don’t like the looks of this thing.
Does your older model have a decent insert?
Thanks so much for your help,
Molly
Molly, mine is pretty sturdy. It’s thick enough I’m not concerned about warping or anything like that, but it’s slightly thinner than what you expect stainless steel would be.
I think I should have ordered one with a stainless steel cookwell. This is confusing!
My porcelain one tested as free of lead. If you’re concerned, you could pick up a lead testing kit at a Home Improvement store for a couple of dollars.
Thanks KerryAnn. I have one, but I thought I remembered you saying on the podcast that your understood that those test kits test at or above the FDA allowed levels of lead.
I’ve since learned that they do have some kits that are sensitive. So I think it’s good reassurance.
Thank you!
