Baby Steps- Transitioning to Traditional Foods in April

Last year on the forum, we started a Baby Steps section to help people new to traditional foods. Each month, I will be posting those baby steps to the blog in case you’re wanting to start your own Traditional Foods journey.

For April, our theme is veggies. This month we turn to upping vegetable intake and soaking grains. This will be easier now that we have reduced our sugar intake and increased the trace minerals in our diets since the beginning of the year. Baby Steps- Transitioning to Traditional Foods

Last year on the forum, we started a Baby Steps section to help people new to traditional foods.  Each month, I will be posting those baby steps to the blog in case you’re wanting to start your own Traditional Foods journey.

January begins with the most basic steps.

1. Make your own chicken stock from scratch instead of buying canned stock.
2. Switch the type of fat you’re cooking with to a traditional fat- coconut oil, lard, butter, tallow, ghee, palm oil.
3. Eat fruits and vegetables that are in season for this month.
4. Move to consuming the best quality dairy that you can find &/or afford. If you can not locate or afford raw milk, you will not receive any flack from board members. We all understand limits of availability and budget. Instead, let’s discuss ways to make non-raw milk as healthy as possible, such as kefir, yogurt and other cultures.

Baby Steps- Transitioning to Traditional Foods in Feburary

Last year on the forum, we started a Baby Steps section to help people new to traditional foods.  Each month, I will be posting those baby steps to the blog in case you’re wanting to start your own Traditional Foods journey.

February continues with the basic steps.

  1. Add vegetable intake via sneaky veggies where it is possible.
  2. Change breakfast to being healthier but in a form that is still acceptable to your family. Move from cold cereal to oatmeal, scrambled eggs, soaked pancakes or waffles and the like.
  3. Change to sea salt if you have not already. Sea salt contains many trace minerals that iodized salt does not.
  4. Start taking cod liver oil.
  5. If you’ve already changed salt and started CLO, consider a trace mineral supplement if you feel you might be deficient.

Baby Steps in May

For May, our theme is veggies for the second month in a row. For June, our theme is more vegetable intake. This will be easier now that we have reduced our sugar intake and increased the trace minerals in our diets and adjusted to the flavor of hidden veggies. [Read more…] about Baby Steps in May
