A couple of weeks ago I decided to try magnesium oil again as part of the protocol I’m designing to heal my hormonal issues. After hearing a close friend was having great success with it, I decided to dive in with both feet. I started it last week and I’ve had some surprising benefits. Previously I had given up on it due to the stinging. I’m currently using Health and Wisdom Magnesium Oil.
I started out dosing myself with eight sprays twice a day. By the fourth day I was past mellow. I was loosey goosey, floppy, go-with-the-flow awesomeness. I was too relaxed to the point I wasn’t accomplishing much and I seriously didn’t care. I backed off to eight sprays at bedtime and am doing well with that. It relaxes me enough that it helps me to go to sleep but I’m able to still work during the day and not be too mellow. I’m relaxed and happy without being floppy.
Another benefit is that for the first time in a long time, I haven’t had any cramping during my cycle. In fact, I barely noticed her this month as she was pretty symptomless. Due to my hormonal issues, I’ve felt like every month was Russian roulette because you never knew what symptoms would pop out once I’d start. I will be paying close attention in the next few months to see if this continues. If so, I will be extremely pleased as this is a result I did not expect.
And of course there’s always the fringe benefit of having odorless sweat. Smelling like maple syrup is kinda cool. 😉
The funny thing is that since starting the spray, I’ve noticed a comical side effect. My gut has become extremely noisy. Day and night, it talks, it gurgles. We’ve all had some laughs out of it since you can hear it across the room. It hasn’t affected my digestion or elimination but the sound effects are giggle-inducing. The volume and frequency of the noise is starting to settle down and I assume that after another week or so, it will be quieter.
Once the current bottle of magnesium oil runs out, I plan on purchasing the Life Flo magnesium flakes and making my own oil. You just mix one part flakes to one part distilled water. This works out to be a far cheaper option.
Have you tried mag oil? How has it affected you?

Sounds like a wonderful thing to try myself, glad it’s working for you…do you spray inside your mouth? I tried it but it was external and didn’t notice a difference.
I spray it on my skin. I rotate around my chest, back, stomach, arms and legs. It tastes bad, so I didn’t do it inside my mouth.

I started this about a month & a half ago. I haven’t been near as meticulous about its use as I should be, but the smelling like cookies is nice 🙂 After we spoke a few days ago, I’ve been using it regularly, and I’ll work up a post to compare notes.

I have a bottle of this stuff sitting around. Where do you spray it? Do you rub it in or just let it sit there? I guess I ought to try it!!
I spray it on my skin- usually my torso, but I’ve also done my arms and legs and I rotate it around. I rub it in and then do my hair, face and I wait until it’s absorbed before I get dressed.

You’ve inspired me to try again. I stopped too because of the stinging. Maybe I needed to start with less. Do you wash it off or just spray the 8 sprays and go to bed? Thanks for sharing your success!
If it stings, I’d add more water and spray less while your body adjusts. If you have already made oil, I’d dilute one cup of the oil with one cup of water. If you’re making your own, I’d do three parts water to one part flakes. Then start with 2 sprays and gradually work up.

Ok I need to try this again…since my second has weaned my hormones are WACKED out and my periods are SO painful! I have a spray bottle of water and mag flakes that I did a while back but didn’t do it much because of remembering to do it and not really knowing how much/where to do it. Where do you spray it and how much of the water/mag flake spray should I use? Do you let it soak in for a while or rub it in? Thanks!
I spray any skin- arms, legs, torso, and I give it 8 sprays. I do it every night as part of my bedtime routine. I take a bath, dry off then spray it on, rub it in and I let it absorb in while I brush my teeth, do my hair and the like.

Interesting. Can I ask what hormonal issues you were trying to alleviate? Also, do you mix it 50% magnesium oil/50% distilled water and then just spray it on and leave it?
Laurie, I have short luteal phase and I recently had a miscarriage. The mag oil is just one part of a protocol I’m putting together for myself. I’ll post more about the rest as we get it figured out.
The magnesium oil is already mixed and ready to use. You only have to mix it with extra water if it makes your skin sting. If you purchase the flakes, you’ll need to mix it one to one with distilled water to make it into magnesium oil.
I spray it on and let it soak in. If it bothers your skin, you can wash it off after 20-30 minutes.

I am on week 4 of Transdermal Mag Therapy and love it. It helps with muscle pain from post-polio and I’ve been migraine free since. I’m hooked. My husband likes it also for sleeping and shoulder pain.
My mom is having a problem with her shoulders. I’ll give some to her to see if it helps. That’s a good idea. Thanks!

It’s certainly been a help to me! It’s inexpensive enough it’s worth a try.

Fascinating, I have not heard of this. I will have to look into it further. I found that a cal-Mag supplement was the only thing to give me relief from near-constant prodromal labor with my last pregnancy. Mag oil might be good for prevention and relief for the future.

Magnesium oil is WAY overpriced. It is basically just magnesium chloride dissolved in water. Buying your own magnesium chloride, mixing it up, and sticking it in a spray bottle means you can have gallons upon gallons of the stuff for a few bucks.
I bought a 2.2 lb bx of MgCl from Amazon for under $20… about 2 years ago. It’s not even a quarter used up yet. Here’s the stuff I got: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002E62HXQ/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
Mix it up yourself and save money.
Wow. That’s expensive now! $40 for 2.2 lbs. The Life Flo flakes I linked to above are $13.29 for 2.75 pounds.

Yeah, they doubled the price since I bought it. Jerks. 😉
KerryAnn,
You never cease to amaze me! Mag oil is something I have been wanting to try for quite a some time but just never have due to the expense. Our budget seemed to always have more pressing priorities and this always seemed to fall off of the list for that month. Month after month! And then what if I liked it? That would just be another expense to add to our regular expenses. I came across your post today while reading about something else on your site and what do I see? “Magnesium Trial update”!!! Wow! KerryAnn is going to discuss Mag oil!!! The reason I was especially excited about this is because your words in your blogs have become something I can really trust. You speak the truth, both honestly and humbly. You are clear on what to expect and you reveal your honest experiences. Your sharings are not sugar coated, you don’t seem to leave anything out, they are very helpful and practical, and you do this with such grace that I just find myself wishing you lived in Colorado so that we could be friends. BTW: my undergraduate degree was in Geology too with a minor in organic chemistry!
Anyway, now that I have found an incredibly inexpensive way to incorporate Mg oil into my life, AND I have some guidelines to go by thanks to you, I am going to give this a try right away.
Often, something that I have been mulling over, or have a question about in terms of health and nutrition or cooking, I find that you are doing the same thing and posting about it! Twelfth monkey effect I suppose. These thoughts must be in the ethers!
Thank you once again for being on this planet at the same time as me!!
