I have a girlie girl who loves crafts. As I mentioned in a previous post, we re-did her bedroom as a Christmas gift and she’s been wanting some pretties. I got the idea from a Hanging Roses Tutorial at House of Smiths that I modified slightly. One is light purple and the other is light blue.
The blue one is a little crushed on the upper right-hand side, but I just need to re-fluff it. That’s where it was sitting on itself while I was working. DH helped me hang them from her bedroom ceiling. I’ll make a third one in another color when I get the chance.
They’re quite easy to make and inexpensive, just time consuming. The largest ball only took two full rolls of crepe paper and only about 6 feet of a third roll, the styrofoam ball, some ribbon and the hot glue sticks. I did mine slightly different than the instructions linked above. I pinched the crepe paper to the center while rolling the paper instead of using it to create a twisted stem. So the flowers have a slightly different look to them. It also gave me greater control over the size of the roses and used less hot glue.
The styrofoam balls are expensive, so I used coupons and chose the smaller balls. My local craft store has a big price jump starting with the 8-inch ball, so all of mine were under 6 inches. I spent about $10 (plus the glue sticks I already had on hand) for the project, including the supplies for the third ball. Local stores carry the crepe paper for about $1 a roll.
I didn’t measure the crepe paper, I just pulled it out the length of my arm and cut.
I’m really happy with how they turned out. I could see making some smaller ones for a topiary or to hang in the living room if you can find crepe paper that matches the color of your room. If you have a party supply store in your area, you can likely find a wide selection of colors.
I have many more ideas like this on my Pinterest account, if you’d like to take a peek.

They’re really cute. I’m in the process of making them for my daughter’s room as well. Very time consuming. I’m still on my first one..haha. I really to make the time to get them done… great post!
