Today, it was cold enough for our area to see some snowfall.  It snowed all around us and at the grandparent’s house, but not at our home.  It’s sleeting a little and trying to finally spit some snow at home now.  I know the kids are excited, but the chickens are probably just as happy without the wet, white stuff to wade through while foraging. The air feels wet and raw with a constant, low breeze.  It will be back to highs in the 70’s by Tuesday.  I’m sure everyone will be sick soon from the wildly swinging temperatures by the end of the week.

We still have beautifully colored trees all around us, though most are now rapidly dropping their leaves due to the cold.   We can once again see the river from our house now that most of the leaves are gone. This morning, Jeff and the kids finished stacking the firewood.  He and I will get outside and get what doesn’t fit under the shelter covered with a tarp to keep it dry when I am able. Last year, it was much colder than anticipated, so we didn’t have enough firewood to get us through the whole season.  I hope this year we will have enough.

A nice, warm drink is always welcome on cold, raw, windy days.  We normally serve this drink on special days, like the first snowfall of the year, and when we have company over the Holidays.

  • This is what love looks like. With the exception of the lip balms and Monin syrups which I purchased and had sent to my moms house before we had to leave our home, all of these items have been purchased for us by friends who are helping us through this crisis. It’s all basics and necessities. Clothing, shoes, personal care. Sheets and bedding. Kitchen items, towels. And it is a BLESSING! Losing everything has been so tough.
